Interview/Guest Post: Jessamine by Eugenia O'Neal

JessamineJessamine by Eugenia O'Neal

Jessamine tells the story of Grace Hylton, an African-American, who arrives on the Caribbean island of St. Crescens full of doubts about her husband’s political aspirations, doubts about her marriage and doubts about the wisdom of relocating. Her native-born husband, Julian, has lived most of his adult life in the States but has come back to St. Crescens, determined to pull his country out of the cauldron of corruption, nepotism and crime into which the leading political dynasty has taken it.

An architect by training, Julian buys and restores Jessamine, an old Great House. What the Hyltons don’t know is that Jessamine is home to the ghost of Arabella Adams who lived there as a governess during the late 1800s.

Jessamine is told from the alternating viewpoints of the two women – both foreigners, both married to local men. An old injustice binds them across the century that separates them, but can Grace discover its roots before St. Crescens is plunged into violence and chaos?

Book Excerpt: I Am A Harvester Of Light by Sarah Tsomides

I Am A Harvester Of LightI Am A Harvester Of Light by Sarah Tsomides
Kindle Edition, 75 pages
Published by Amazon Digital Services

I was born into a society, a village close to the forest; a conservative one indeed, the death of my parents when I was young left me with questions about the traditions and beliefs fostered by the Forest Council.

Light and darkness represents two different things for the inhabitants of the village where I live; light is represented by good and darkness as evil. The definition does not sound as easy as you would think. There seems to be more to the evil and good side!

My parents were swallowed by darkness and neither did I know that more tragedy was on its way. A tragedy which I could or maybe would handle. If you are reading this; then be afraid of the dark henceforth and as for the light hold on to it wisely but with logical reasoning.
We have the harvesters of light and the shadowers all wrestling for survival, identity in a society fostered by class, gullibility, oral tradition, secrecy, and thirst for power. But one thing remains for certain- I am a harvester of light.

The Empire of Andresium is threatened by the corruption of the immortals, ancient beings given the gift of eternal life after the death of the last reigning empress. A prophecy speaks of their eventual downfall at the hands of one of their own, however. Tallis is known by most simply as "The Loren," and seeks to avoid her destiny while trying herself to remain untainted by the decaying morals and indifference to the fates of men that plague her kind. As the events of the prophecy begin to unfold, Tallis finds herself conflicted between upholding her dedication to justice, and falling victim to the ramifications of following the desires of her own heart.

Dreamheart Spotlight # 21

My hair may exceed my collar, look pleasing to the eye, and not snare when touched.  Yet I said it once and will say if again, “I know NOTHING about hair”.  Any environmental elements that contribute to my mane outside of genetics is completely unintentional; and I couldn’t maintain, share or duplicate it if I tried.  Therefore when a subject matter expert speaks with sound advice….I listen!

It is with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to interview, hair stylist Keila Sone on today’s Dreamheart Spotlight.

Keila decided to become a master at taming locks for the sheer fun of it.    “It seemed like something I would enjoy doing as an art form”, she said. “After beauty school, I apprenticed for DramaticsNYC and Mark Garrison Salon.”

She believes “Hair relates [to personal style] as artistic and sexual expression.”  “Hair reflects a person self-esteem”, she said.  “If your hair is trash, you can became depress and ashamed of be in public.”

This cutting edge HEADliner (pun intended) is inspired by Madonna, Deepak Chopra, art, fashion, under ground music scenes and storytelling.  She loves the iconic hairstyles of Nick Arrojo, Louis Lacari and Tabatha Coffey.

Kindred Dreamheart on a Star Introduction

As you all well know to style celebrities is my career aspiration To see one of my designs grace the red carpet brings tears to my eyes just daring to dream it.    Yet with the influx of reality television, that dream seems almost unobtainable without subjecting your life in a play by play to the general public.  Let me tell you…that’s just scary thinking about it.  I’ve had clients, fans, family and friends alike ask me why won’t I go on Project Runway or any of the other “You’re going to be famous by allowing us to film you” shows.  I can’t even fathom it.  Blogging has been the most exposed I have ever been in my entire life, and even now I’m still guarded.  So I sooth myself by whisperingbaby steps, baby steps”; while maintaining my vice grip on my dream.  Perhaps a few prayers are slipping through those pearly gates because now I am able to bring a long awaited feature to my blog:  Kindred Dreamheart on a Star!  That’s right folks.  It would appear I am getting lucky.  On this feature I will showcase celebrities (local, regional, foreign, worldwide and global), I’ve had the opportunity to dress in an Kindred Dreamheart original.  This will air on Saturdays when there is a client to be presented, so stay tuned.

Tour Stop/ Guest Post: The Shapeshifter's Secret by Heather Ostler

Guest Post: Animal Prints in Fashion
Every time I go shopping and see animal prints, I can’t help but smile. I love the look of leopard, tiger, and cheetah designs in fashion (obviously all faux).
My novel, The Shapeshifter’s Secret, is about werecats, which are humans that can shapeshift into lions, tigers, cheetahs and leopards. I’ve always loved big cats, and that has definitely influenced by writing. Because I spend so much time writing about these beautiful creatures, it shouldn’t be a surprise that I love animal prints in fashion.
When I think of cheetah, tiger, or leopard prints I think of bold, versatile, and youthful. Dresses, shirts, sunglasses, or shoes will always have that exotic appearance because the prints are so bright and eye catching.
Wearing animal prints is a great way to show off your fun, edgy, and wild side too. It sparks ideas of adventure and is a great head turner.

Dreamheart Spotlight #20

In the “Goddess of the Spectrum” photo shoot with DC photographer, Dwayne of Magnetic Images Photography, I was introduced to model, Janet A O.  Her humble yet witty personality  and sassy poses made this event a very painless experience.  And to top it all off, I celebrated my anniversary of birth that day which made this model all the more memorable.   “I love the glamour of it all, the makeup, the clothes, and just being able to give the product or photos come to life,” said the college senior.  “I will soon be graduating from Towson University with bachelor's of science degree in Psychology.”

I love Jameson because he's just a regular high-school guy. He IS one of the good guys, but he's still rolling out of bed, grabbing a random T-shirt, a not-too-firty pair of jeans, and then stuffing his feet in the shoes that are probably never untied and heading out the door.

He's a guy, and a pretty simple one at that.
