Tour Stop {Guest Post/Giveaway}: Kaleidoscope (Faylinn #1) by Mindy Hayes

Calliope is a pretty casual gal. Her wardrobe consists mainly of jeans and t-shirts. But there is a pre-faery and post-feary wardrobe that she has, so I'm going to explore both of them!

Pre-faery Calliope can wear whatever she wants. She likes to be simple and comfy, but still cute. She's not a big accessories kind of girl. I see her wearing outfits looking like this on a regular basis(without the accessories, though the accessories are darling):
Comfy Cozy Cute

Pink and Grey

Jennifer Aniston

Post-feary Calliope has to hide some very apparent features, so she can't wear clothing as tightly as she used to. The shirts either need to be flowy or thick. Now, living in South Carolina in the dead of summer she can't really wear hoodies everyday, so she's resorted to clothing that's a little less form fitting, but still fashionable. She'd probably wear something like this:

look 1

Cheeta print

look 2

I don't make mention of Calliope's clothing a lot in the book, but I do have one fun scene I can share.

“Calliope,” Kai said, startled.
There was a hitch in my breathing. That was the first time Kai had called me by my real name.
His stance relaxed as he lowered his weapon before holstering it in place on his back. “Do you realize I almost just killed you?” The alarm was apparent in his voice. “Why are you dressed in all dark colors, creeping around like you don’t belong here?”

I looked down at my dark grey hoodie and jeans and shrugged. “I wasn’t creeping around. Do you go around pointing arrows at every unfamiliar figure? What if I had been Cameron?”

She would have been wearing something similar to this:

Sporty

I kind of want to start trying on Calliope's style for size. Maybe I will! :)

“Was I still a human? Gosh, I still wanted to be human. Even just to keep a sliver of whom I thought I was. But as I thought about being human, standing in the shade of the forest, I felt less human than ever. The trees fought for my allegiance."

It starts in her chest. The change Calliope doesn't see coming. It pulses like a second heartbeat, urging her to give in to the need to be in the depths of the forest. She's compelled to fight the pull, but the more she denies it the stronger it becomes until she finally surrenders and is pulled into a secret world of enchantment.
Kai and Declan need her to accept what she is, but with everything left unsaid, acceptance may be the least of their worries. Knowing their fate lies in her hands, they’ll stop at nothing to protect and prepare her for what lies ahead.

Will Calliope be able to accept what Kai and Declan reveal or will her desire to be normal keep her from acknowledging her true destiny?

  2. Calliope's outfits fit perfectly with pre-faerie and post faerie life. The story is also very good. I might check it out myself.
