1: an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives
I have my own theory on dystopia and it's popularity: For years my Grandmother, as well as other elderly people, has had an obsession with the pending Apocalypse. I'm sure you've heard, "We living in our last days", right? So it's no wonder that subsequent generations would embellish on the obsession with imagining societies post Apocalyptic as well as the cause. From zombie takeovers, to infertility pandemonium, killing for sport, to government corruption and anarchy.... I think we can all agree that this genre is always thrilling. The possibilities are endless.
Oh and let's not forget about the fashion! Dystopian fashion is usually a collective collaboration of various eras with an emphasis on "world" practicability! In some instantcies it can also be super futuristic or vintage...silly or cool...tacky or chic.
