Violet Miller is a teacher savoring her summer break until she's been called in as emergency reinforcements—of the dating kind. She volunteers to help an old flame by pretending to be his girlfriend. In Alaska. At a family reunion. Since the guy is a handsome, lumberjack-sized doctor she's never quite forgotten, faking a relationship won't be hard work—while wishing for more.
Mike Ostranski is a desperate man on vacation. His mother wants grandchildren and sees a crazy Alaskan woman as a candidate for daughter-in-law. Mike needs Violet by his side to deflect the lady's advances.
A week in Alaska as boyfriend and girlfriend should be easy for them. They grew up together, even had a brief fling. What could go wrong?
Wishing is a great, fun, light, and hilarious read. With characters like Goldie (a wonderfully funny, nosy, 70 year old who happens to own the Adult toy store in town) how could this book be anything but great?
Violet is a teacher who is out for summer vacation and part timing it at the adult store to pay for her ongoing education towards her masters. One day Violet receives a phone call from someone looking for her twin sister Veronica. Oh, but not just someone. IT is Oz her first love on the other end in desperate need of someone to play his gf for a week to get his stalker Susan and his mom off his back. Of course Violet refuses, but with people like Goldie and Jane convincing her that she would be crazy to turn this opportunity down, she decides to go for it and flies out to Alaska to be Oz's (Michael) pretend girlfriend. The moment she arrives And is welcomed by Oz and his mother, she learns she isn't just Oz's pretend girlfriend and gets way more than she bargained for!
This book has it all Comedy, two sexy french twins who like to share more than just their faces, nosy moms, stalker neighbor, A grandfather who is obsessed with the civil war era, and so much more.
I sat by the pool while my girls swam and just devoured this book. The characters are great, they make you feel at home. And if you know anything about me you know I LOVE the Montana setting. I am big on Linda Lael Millers Big Country series that takes place in Montana. Wishing totally brought me back to that place.
I also REALLY like the fact that Violet struggles with her career choice. She is an elementary school teacher who secretly longs to be an erotic romance writer. But she's scared she will be judged and that people will think down on her and turn their back on her. The whole situation wraps in very nicely with this book!
This is the 4th book in the series, but it can be read on its own without feeling lost. I like that Jennifer Zane didn't give too much away with previous characters so that if I decided I wanted to go back and read the other 3, the stories wouldn't be blown for me.
Bottom Line: if you enjoy a good light romance with tons of quirky characters pick this book up. You wont be sorry!
