Seventeen-year old Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her single mom is sent to jail. She’s forced to move, leaving behind everything she’s ever known, including her best friend Sydney. Lost and bitter in a new school, her one goal is to save money and move back home. Then she meets Angel Moreno.
Enigmatic but gorgeous, Angel is almost too good to be true. Except for one thing, his archaic belief that guys and girls can never be “just friends”. The problem? Sarah’s best friend Sydney is not a girl.
With their unexpected romance intensifying to places neither ever experienced, how long can Sarah keep Angel in the dark about the guy waiting for her back home?
Book #1 of the Moreno series...... I read book #2 first so I kind of knew the ending to this story. It was still a nice read.
This is Angel & Sarah's story. Sarah moves from Arizona to live with her aunt & cousin Valerie in California. Sarah's Mom is in jail & arranged for her to live with them until she gets out. Sarah has to leave her best friend Sydney behind. Promising him that she will move back and live with his family as soon as she turns 18 because then her Mom cannot tell her what she has to do.
Sarah meets Angel Moreno at school and they fall for each other pretty hard. Angel assumes that Sydney is a girl & Sarah is not sure how to tell him anything different. Syd & Sarah's relationship is hard to understand but they feel like brother & sister and no one else has ever understood it. When the truth comes out before Sarah can tell Angel in her own way Angel assumes the worst.
Tension and heartache makes Sarah go back to Arizona to live with Sydney. Sarah visits her Mom and tells Sarah to please go back to California until she gets her release date. Sydney is protective of Sarah, as is Angel and even though Sarah & Angel's relationship is on hold, Sydney reaches out to Angel knowing that he will help protect her from a mistake that Sydney feels has put Sarah in danger.
All in all a pretty good read..... I am onto Book #3.
