Eighteen-year-old Jenny Morton has a horrific secret: her touch spreads a deadly supernatural plague, the "Jenny pox." She lives by a single rule: Never touch anyone. A lifetime of avoiding any physical contact with others has made her isolated and painfully lonely in her small rural town.
Then she meets the one boy she can touch. Jenny feels herself falling for Seth...but if she's going to be with him, Jenny must learn to use the deadly pox inside her to confront his ruthless and manipulative girlfriend Ashleigh, who secretly wields the most dangerous power of all.
It was an interesting story. It is about a girl named Jenny who was born with a horrible ability. Like Rouge in X-Men it is not a good idea to touch her. She can not absorb your abilities but her touch is deadly. With Jenny's touch a disease starts to spread & if she holds on to long it will eat you alive.
Seth & Ashleigh are a couple. Ashleigh has the ability to make people feel love and can make them do anything for her. Seth is under Ashleigh's spell although he does not realize it and they have been dating for 3 years. Seth has the ability to heal, which is one of the reasons that Ashleigh keeps him around. Seth always makes people feel better and this just helps Ashleigh's cause. Ashleigh cause being to rule the world. (I'm not kidding, rule the freaking world)
Seth happens to come upon Jenny when someone ran over her dog and Seth heals him. Jenny knows right away that he has an ability even though at 1st he deny's it but how can you argue when you heal a dog that had 3 legs and now he has 4. Jenny for the win. Seth has to tell her the truth and the find that they really like each other. Ashleigh is in the way and hates Jenny. Ashleigh hates even more that Seth is falling for Jenny and escaping her touch.
Ashleigh is evil and ruins the lives of many around her. Ashleigh makes Jenny & Seth's life hell (Ashleigh had always made Jenny's life hell, so no change there), Ashleigh gets the principle in trouble, the teen girls in her church programs are in trouble & Ashleigh is just gaining popularity.
Janny & Seth know they need to stop Ashleigh. But they are unsure what to do. They try to tell her to stop using her ability and let life take its course but she refuses to listen.
How will Seth and Jenny stop Ashleigh? What are they? Are there others like them in the world? What will their actions bring to their small town?
These are the questions you will ask when reading this book and most will be answered.
There are other stories in this series but I am unsure if I will read them. This was an interesting story but I feel that the author took a lot from the movie "Carrie" and the story has been told in many forms before. There is a twist as to what they are and where they came from but to be honest I did not really understand it. There is a lot of religious talk and not always in a good way. For instance Ashleigh preaches abstinence but she is not a virgin. Warning to parents this book contains sex, teen pregnancy, drug use, Christianity in a not so flattering light, and politics. I did not mind any of these things but then again I am not a teenager.
